Bilbao, a new city

Bilbao is the city in which I was born. It's in the north of Spain, near France and it's also the largest city in the Basque Country and the capital of the province of Vizcaya.

Since it was founded, it has changed a lot. Before, it was an industrial city but in the 90's it became a tourist resort because of the Guggenheim museum(1997), which is the symbol of Bilbao around the world.

Bilbao has the advantage that you can combine the beach (the Atlantic Ocean) and the mountains (Gorbea, Urkiola...) because it's not far away from them.

As a consecuence of the development of the city, Bilbao has an airport called Sondika, so if you want to visit Bilbao, you can perfectly arrive by plane.

In my opinion, Bilbao is an interesting place to visit for a few days. Firstly, you can go to the old part of the city to visit the Arriaga theatre and the "siete calles" and also take something to drink in the various bars. Secondly, you can walk across the Gran Via, the biggest avenue, to see well-known shops as Zara, Armani, Quiksilver... but you also can choose to take the trainway to go to the Guggenheim museum. Furthermore, if you walk a little bit more, you arrive to the Euskalduna Palace and to the biggest park of the city near the Nervion river. Another important place is San Mames, the city's football team stadium. This team, the Athletic was founded in 1898 by some english people who come there to make trade. It's one of the best teams in Spain but at the moment the results are not as good as we wish.
I propose to visit Bilbao in summer (July-August) because of the weather. There's always a good temperature, aproximately 20ÂșC, which is perfect to go surfing to Mundaka, Sopelana... In addition, for music fans there's a music festival called "Bilbao live" and in August there are Bilbao's party, the "Aste Nagusia".
